Distant Land 05:45
And so they said that I must change my ways and never waste my sweet days And so I shed the fairy dust far and wide throughout the purple red haze It's not like me to double and bend my ways to every one I could meet I keep on flowing like a river finds its way down to the sea And so I said that I'm-no taker nor shall I a giver be So fly, fly high in the sky, fly to another world No matter what you planned Be free, be free; follow me, free to flee to another world Take freedom where you can Come away, away Come far, far away, far away land High, fly high, away land Far away land, high, fly high Take me far away towards another, another distant homeland Where the sun can cleanse my fear away Take me far away towards distant land So fly, fly high in the sky, fly to another world No matter what you planned Be free, be free; follow me, free to flee to another world Take freedom where you can Bless you; you only...

As the Crow Flies: The time was ticking but not for me As I carefully followed the path But the grass was greener on the other side So I went there just for a laugh A wily crow shone his eye down on me As I peered up over my scarf; the other day Sometimes in the morning, when I take a shower That's when I start recalling the things the day before I wonder as the crow flies in what seems an intentional line Does it know where it is going or is it just pie in the sky? The gate flew open to another world In which the time stood remarkably still There were birds and bees working hard on their knees And a goat added grist to the mill The wily crow just continued its flow Heading straight for the top of the hill; the other way Sometimes in the evening when I go to sleep I think about the morning; which memories to keep I wonder as the crow flies as it flits from here to there Does it know where it is going or is simply unaware? On Friday night I took a running jump As I didn't know which way to turn The wily crow got the better of me As I hadn't got bridges to burn So now I sit twiddling my thumbs As he left me with a lesson to learn; without delay Remember that you, over time will see All you knew fall away Drop away, though you hold them dear They never come back Won't come back, though you hold them dear They never comeback Once again I must say to you That they never come back The time was ticking... The gate flew open... A wily crow... On Friday night... The time was ticking... A wily crow... The gate flew open...

Black Book of Carmarthen If I have got a part to play, well then fine So let it be revealed If I have got a light to shine, well then shine Don't let it be concealed If I could only change my way today I would, and it would be for good Oh, black book, oh black book Black as a rook; just an old black book Oh, black book, Black Book of Carmarthen You old, you black book You have helped us to see how the mighty dead survive If I have got a card to play, well then fine But let it be for real If I received a mighty sign today, then fine But let me know the deal If I could only change my way today, I would And it would be for good

Taking the Long Way Counting all the petals on a fresh daisy chain Taking the long way home Hoping for the sunshine in the wet pouring rain Think I'll take a longer walk down memory lane You're taking the long way home Somehow all the places they're not looking the same Taking the long way home Have you seen the tinker with his watch on a chain? Trying to engage the wheels of fortune and fame? There's a man on the run with a gun in his hand Another one behind with a catapult Now the one with the gun points his finger at the sun The other one behind does a somersault Over there, up a tree you can only barely see Twenty missionaries and three taking cortisone You see three at the quay waving madly at the sea And they all missed the last train home Trying to find the only way back Fortune and fame? Taking the long way back Every single shingle has a crack Taking the long way back There's a man with his son doing press-ups in the sand Some children with a woman talking double-Dutch And the son takes her hand saying; “Welcome to the band... Come aboard”. “Yes I will I thank you very much” Far away on a train sits a pleasant talking fiend With a pocketful of sweets and a pick-me-up But the strain on the brain's fallin' mainly on the plain And they all caught the last train home Counting all the petals on a fresh daisy chain Hoping for the sunshine in the wet pouring rain Think I'll take a longer walk down memory lane Somehow all the places they're not looking the same Have you seen the tinker with his watch on a chain? Trying to engage the wheels of fortune and fame? Fortune and fame? Will we see another year? Gone!

The Sun King 07:42
I am the wind that breathes upon the sea I am the wave on the ocean I am the murmur of the leaves rustling I am the rays of the sun I am the beam of the moon and stars I am the power of trees growing I am the bud breaking in to blossom I am the movement of the salmon swimming I am the courage of the wild boar fighting I am the speed of the stag running I am the strength of the ox pulling the plough I am the size of the mighty oak tree And, I am the thoughts of all the people Who praise my beauty and grace Extract from The Black Book of Carmarthen with kind permission from The National Library of Wales.

about

The Sun King was written and recorded during the awful years of 2020 and 2021. We hope that this at least will show that there is hope even during dark times and that anything is possible ...
